Product Master: Change a Product Number

Changing a Product Number will cause the new product number to appear on all current and historical orders, invoices, purchase orders, and receivings for the item.

***WARNING: Product Number changes are not reversible. Selecting a Product Number that already exists will merge the two items, which may have unwanted consequences.***

Change a Product Number

You can set this change to take effect immediately, or to take effect the next day. When the change does take effect, the new product number will replace the existing number on all sales and purchase orders.

1.First, in the Product Master screen, enter the product number in the Product Number field and press Tab.

2.Then, click the Edit button in the bottom right corner.

3.Now, right-click in the Product Number field and select Change Product Number from the drop down menu.

4.The "Change Product Number" window will pop-up. Choose when you want the system to process the change: Immediately or Overnight.

5.In the To Product Number field, enter the new reference code that you want to use for the product, then press Tab. If the number already exists for a product, that product description will appear to the right. Do NOT continue if a product description appears, as this will merge the two products. Delete the number that you entered and enter a new number that does not already exist as a product.

6.When you have selected the appropriate product number, click the OK button. If you chose to change the product immediately, the system will make the change. If you chose to change it overnight, the system will simply return you to the Product Master screen.
