Importing Cross-Linked Manufacturer Numbers
Typically product import is based upon the manufacturer's number for the individual product. This becomes the initial link between your products and the imported data file. Problems may arise when different manufacturers use the same number for different products, resulting in updates being posted to the wrong product. You can eliminate this problem by using UPC #'s as the link, but they are more difficult to hand enter.
If a manufacturer's product number is found for a different product line than the product being imported, the Cross-Linked Manufacturer's Number window will appear. You can then choose to accept the match or not. Depending on the options you selected when importing the products, an unmatched item may either be skipped or added as a new item in your product file.
Alternatively, using product number based matching will find matches based on your product number being identical to the manufacturer's number. This will also check the validity of the match using the product line and product number. If the product lines do not match, the existing product will not be updated. This will prevent the system from updating the wrong item. |
