The Product

The Product section of Inform is designed to help you manage individual product information, as well as product lines and price groups. Each product has its own Product Number and Master record; the Master record documents details regarding the product, from the product description and price specifications, to warehouse replenishment and accessory products.

The Product Line, Price Group, Major Group, Buy Line, Major Buy Line, Unit of Measure, Cycle Count Group, and Hazardous Material - DOT fields allow you to create and edit options for these fields where they apply. You can then assign them to products through the Master record.

You can also apply changes to a selected group of products using the Mass Change option at the bottom of the menu. To learn more about making mass changes, click the Mass Change option to the left.

Product Rank

In screens like Product Analysis and on your inventory reports, you will see a Rank field for each product. The formula for product rank can be based on Hits, Sales Dollars, Gross Margin Return on Investment (GMROI), or a combination of all three factors.

By default, the system ranks each product based on the number of Hits it receives. A Hit is each time the product appears on an order, regardless of the quantity ordered. Below is a table explaining what each rank indicates.

Rank	Definition
A	These items appear on the first 80% of your Sales Orders.
B	These items appear on the next 15% of your Sales Orders.
C	These items appear on the next 4% of your Sales Orders.
D	These items appear on the last 1% of your Sales Orders.
X	These items have no hits for the past 12 months.
N	These items were added to the system within the past 12 months and have no sales history.

You can also choose to sort by rank when using the Product Mass Change feature, or when building reports that give you the option to use Product Selection Criteria.
